I’ve mentioned a few times before that I’ve been making a few changes to our family room.  Today, I’d like to show you one of those changes and how easy it can be transform your space with new window treatments.

This is my family room before, perfectly nice, but I was tired of it.  I wanted a change.  I wanted it to feel lighter, more casual.

This is the after.  It’s not finished, but it’s getting there.  Can you see the difference the window treatments made?  I also added a new rug, but the wall color and furniture remained the same.  Once the old red stripes came down and the red accessories were removed, the room was instantly lifted.  It looks like a completely different space.

One last shot.  I love the clean, uncluttered look of my “new” space.   I removed color from my space, but remember that if you want to add color, new window treatments can still do the trick.  Think about the fabric as well.  My old window treatments were silk and my new ones are a linen cotton blend.  They are more casual and add a great deal of texture to the space.

Remember that you don’t you have to make major changes in order to get a new feel to your space.  Change the pillows, change the window treatments, mix up your accessories or add a new rug.  You don’t have to do all of them at once, just choose one or two and go for it.

  1. Love the changes! So bright and airy. We recently “lightened” up our family room space as well with new accessories and a new furniture arrangement. Makes all the difference!

  2. LORI!!!!! Oh you must be in love with the new look – I’d gaze at them all the time. They look incredible and I absolutely love the fabric that you chose (what is that fabric if you don’t mind me asking?) I’m going to be switching out the panels in our bedroom and I’ve got it narrowed down to 2 – now I can’t wait to make the change. And I see your new MGBW lamp too – love it!

  3. WOW!!! As I was reading the post and got to the second picture I was expecting you to say ‘and this is my inspiration’. No, that’s the after!! I had to do a double take (a couple of times) to realize that it was the same furniture and same room! Love it!!

  4. I love the colors in your home. So pretty and serene. What color paint is on your walls and ceiling? I love the idea of painting the ceiling!

  12. Hi Lori, I’m catching on on my blog reading, and WOW! I simply cannot believe what those curtains did to the space. I”m a big believer in curtains (hung high and wide), but I’ve never seen it make such a dramatic difference as these. Truly fantastic!
