I’ve been promising more details about my Nicholas House room for a couple of weeks now and today is the day!  In case you just joined us, Nicholas House is a shelter in Atlanta that helps families move from homelessness to self-sufficiency.  Room Service Atlanta is a non-profit organization that was formed to help inspire these families through design.  Participating designers are each taking a room, fixing it up and creating a more inviting space for current and future residents.  Sooo, for the past several weeks I have been working on a room for a mom and her 4 year old little boy.

This is my inspiration photo.  I wanted something that was inviting, relaxing and also had a pop of color.  Orange and this yellow gold are two of my absolute favorites!  The blue at first was a bit of a stretch for me, I generally stay with warmer tones, but I really loved how it added such a contrast to this room.  Now if you remember from my floorplan, here, this room is very small, 8 x 11 to be exact, so why such a dark color for the walls you ask?  Well, I don’t always agree with the “must use light colors in a small room rule”.  Nothing is going to make this room feel bigger.  It is small; really small, so I decided to embrace it and create a jewel box sort of space.

Here is a sneak peak of some of the items I have gotten for the room.  I really love how it’s coming together.  I have had some wonderful friends donate some beautiful items.  I plan on featuring them next week during the installation.  Stay tuned, more to come…
